At RGSS, our mission is more than an organizational goal. It’s a calling inspired by timeless visionaries. Among them, Swami Dayanand Saraswati (12 February 1824 – 30 October 1883) stands as a guiding force. A fearless reformer, advocate of truth, and devoted protector of cows, Swami Dayanand’s life and ideals continue to shape our values, actions, and aspirations.
Born as Mool Shankar Tiwari in Tankara, Gujarat, Swami Dayanand displayed an exceptional spiritual curiosity from a young age. His deep questions about life and faith led him to leave home in search of the eternal truth. His quest was rooted in the belief that the Vedas are the ultimate source of knowledge and that society’s progress depends on living by their principles.
For RGSS, his famous reminder - “Na komalena sukhen mokshaḥ prāpyate” (Liberation cannot be attained by ease and comfort) - is a daily motivator. It tells us that real change requires courage, discipline, and sacrifice.
One of Swami Dayanand’s strongest convictions was the protection of cows, which he saw as central to India’s culture, economy, and ecology. He regarded the cow as a “mother” for her selfless service providing milk, aiding agriculture, and sustaining livelihoods.
At RGSS, this vision is at the heart of our initiatives promoting Gau Raksha, encouraging cow-based agriculture, and raising awareness about the cow’s role in environmental balance. To us, cow protection is not just tradition. It's sustainability in action.
Swami Dayanand openly criticized the British colonial administration for permitting large-scale cow slaughter to supply beef to the army and meat traders. In his writings, especially in Satyarth Prakash, he argued that the cow was the “mother of prosperity” and essential to rural livelihoods.
He fearlessly confronted local authorities, urging them to enact bans on cow slaughter, and encouraged the public to unite for Gau Raksha (cow protection) as a matter of cultural pride and economic necessity. His advocacy became a strong moral force behind the later Gau Raksha movements in India.
Swami Dayanand’s courage in challenging harmful customs, blind rituals, and social inequalities made him a true reformer. In 1875, he founded the Arya Samaj, a movement aimed at reviving Vedic wisdom and fostering moral and social upliftment. His rallying cry, “Krinvanto vishvam aryam” (Make the world noble), continues to inspire our work at RGSS.
We draw strength from his fearlessness, whether we’re advocating for rural empowerment, promoting eco-friendly practices, or restoring respect for indigenous traditions.
Swami Dayanand believed in self-reliance, education, and service to society, values that mirror our own organizational pillars. His tireless travels to spread his message remind us that true transformation requires reaching every community, however small or remote.
Just as he dedicated his life to uplifting society through truth, we at RGSS aim to create lasting change by integrating traditional wisdom with modern solutions. Whether it’s sustainable farming, animal welfare, or environmental restoration, his principles guide our path.
Though deeply rooted in ancient Vedic knowledge, Swami Dayanand was a visionary who understood the need for progress and reform. He envisioned a society where cultural pride and social equality coexist, and where prosperity is measured by the well-being of all living beings.
RGSS embraces this philosophy working to protect nature, restore balance in rural economies, and ensure that compassion drives progress. By combining tradition and innovation, we aim to fulfill his dream of a noble, sustainable society.
Every initiative at RGSS is a humble tribute to Swami Dayanand Saraswati’s ideals. His words - “Do good to others, that will be the best way to improve your own self” - are a constant reminder that service is both a duty and a path to self-improvement.
Today, over a century later, his vision continues to inspire movements, organizations, and individuals across India and RGSS is proud to walk in his footsteps.
We are a nation that addresses the moon as Chandamama and cows as Mata. Rashtriya Gau Sevak Sangh is a Sanatani movement dedicated to Gau Mata Seva and Gau Rashtra Nirman. Since 2010, we’ve been reviving Bharat’s soul through Gau Aadharit Arthvyavastha. Every cow protected is a prayer answered, every initiative is a move toward Ram Rajya. Be a part of RGSS because Gau Mata needs you.
