Lala Lajpat Rai (28 January 1865 – 17 November 1928) shines as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and dedication to the cause of India’s freedom and social reform. His devotion to the spiritual and cultural fabric of the nation, including the sacred place of the cow in Indian life, continues to inspire our team’s work in Gau Raksha and rural empowerment.
Known as the “Punjab Kesari” or “The Lion of Punjab,” Lala Lajpat Rai was not only a political activist but also a passionate advocate for preserving and promoting Sanatan Dharma, the eternal way of life that honours the sanctity of all beings.
For him, the cow was a revered symbol of India’s rural heart and spiritual wealth. While he did not leave behind extensive writings solely on cows, his speeches and actions reflected a deep respect for traditional Indian values, including Gau Seva (cow service).
He recognized the cow as a provider of sustenance, prosperity, and moral strength, pillars of India’s self-sufficient village economy. His emphasis on cultural revival inspired movements that sought to protect cows as guardians of Indian identity and dharma.
One compelling story from Lala Lajpat Rai’s life illustrates his respect for cows and rural India. During his travels across Punjab, he visited many villages where he urged locals to revive traditional agriculture and protect the cow from exploitation and harm. He often spoke about how the cow was intertwined with the prosperity of farmers and rural communities.
On one occasion, during a public gathering in Amritsar, he condemned the slaughter of cows and appealed for greater vigilance and protection, linking cow protection with national pride and social welfare. His call to protect the cow was also a call to revive India’s self-reliance, an ideal RGSS actively embraces through sustainable farming and cow-based livelihoods.
The RGSS team honours Lala Lajpat Rai’s legacy by embedding his ideals into every aspect of our work, fostering a world where cows are revered as sacred beings and where rural India thrives through compassionate, sustainable living.
His call to protect the cow echoes in our initiatives: from safeguarding cattle to promoting organic farming and educating communities on the spiritual and practical importance of Gau Raksha.
We are a nation that addresses the moon as Chandamama and cows as Mata. Rashtriya Gau Sevak Sangh is a Sanatani movement dedicated to Gau Mata Seva and Gau Rashtra Nirman. Since 2010, we’ve been reviving Bharat’s soul through Gau Aadharit Arthvyavastha. Every cow protected is a prayer answered, every initiative is a move toward Ram Rajya. Be a part of RGSS because Gau Mata needs you.
